Why I built this

I moved to the Gulf and had to figure everything out myself. Housing, contracts, money decisions — most of it wasn't explained clearly anywhere.

I made expensive assumptions in my first year, and so did almost everyone I met here. Not because we were careless, but because nobody put the real numbers and trade-offs in front of us before we signed anything.

This is not a company. This is just me sharing what I wish I knew earlier.

About me

From Europe to the Middle East — my experience as an expat

I'm Chris. I originally come from Europe and have been living in Qatar with my young family for almost 8 years now.

When I first moved to the Middle East, I had to figure out most things on my own: finding an apartment, finances, banks, insurance, local quirks, investing, everyday life — and all the small challenges nobody explains in an official guide.

Today I work as a pilot in Qatar, and over the years I've built a deep understanding of how life as a European expat in the Gulf actually works.

With Middle East Expat Guide I want to pass that knowledge on and make the start easier for others — whether you're still thinking about a move to Qatar, have just arrived, or simply want to make better decisions.

My goal is simple: less uncertainty, fewer expensive mistakes and a faster start into your new life in the Middle East.
